Communication is an evolving process, so it’s no surprise that the technology tied with it is also evolving. From the late 1800s to the early 2000s, communication devices experienced a drastic change: from stationary phones to portable phones to handheld smartphones. The evolution of phones is a never ending journey.

Early Era of Entertainment

From the dawn of media, audiences have become enthralled,
inspired, and educated through the early listening and
watching devices of the late twentieth century. From the
antics of Full House to the vibrant pop of The Backstreet
Boys, the early entertainment devices not only enriched
the lives of the users of the past but paved the way for
the technology we see today. This exhibit represents a
culmination of some of history's most iconic technological
catalysts.

Today, it seems unfounded to imagine calculators not being used in the classroom. The power of technology has proved itself to be astounding. As a society, we’ve reached academic milestones through the use of faster, more effective ways of calculating. In this exhibit, you will have access to the appliances that completely transformed the way we compute calculations and arithmetic. As you scroll through, you will find that our calculators provide a variety of features that are both engaging and aesthetically intriguing. As a group, we’ve chosen to focus on the physical attributes of our calculators, and specifically, how they cater to the interests of users. Our research covered the ways in which our assigned calculators, and their unique physical features, offer a multitude of opportunities for the user to advance their math skills, interact with technology and thrive in both the classroom and the workplace. Now, are you ready to dive into the world of calculators? From Fingers to Machines, these are the gadgets that you can COUNT on. 

About the Creators - CMDP 2010

CMDP 2010 surveys the history of information technologies and modern techniques of information production, storage, transmission and retrieval. The course equips students with an understanding of technological transformations in interpersonal, organizational and mass communication. It emphasizes the technological, social and political changes that underlie the movement toward a digital society.

Welcome to our exhibit discussing cameras throughout the ages!

Here you will be exposed to a series of different cameras dating back to the early twentieth century. Within each description, you will gain knowledge about the camera's functionalities as well as their social and historical impacts. We hope you will develop some insight into how extensive the history of the camera is along with an appreciation for these incredible devices!

Welcome to the evolution of gaming consoles! The gaming market has grown to become a multibillion dollar industry with advancements each year, but they had to start somewhere. Do you want to know how these companies became video game giants? If so, within the exhibit you can learn about and explore the different functionalities and design builds of our range of artifacts. We discuss their individual strides towards the success of the entire gaming industry as well as their historical backgrounds. We hope you gain some more knowledge about these awesome consoles and enjoy!

These drives held some of the most advanced software in the world at the time, such as The Oregon Trail, a text-based video game. How did we get from that game to fully animated, life-like movies?
